CSIR-CMERI Launches New Electric Tiller to Help Indian Farmers

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) has introduced a new Electric Tiller to help small and marginal farmers. The launch took place in Durgapur, led by Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of CSIR and Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).

This Electric Tiller is made for farmers with less than 2 hectares of land. It offers many benefits like better efficiency and lower costs. Since over 80% of India’s farmers have small farms, this new tiller can significantly help them. Unlike traditional tillers that use fuel, the Electric Tiller runs quietly, doesn’t produce exhaust fumes, and reduces vibration. This makes it more comfortable and safe to use. It also helps India’s goal of reducing pollution.

Farmers using the Electric Tiller can save up to 85% on operational costs. It has an easy-to-change battery and can be charged with regular electricity or solar power. The Electric Tiller works with many common farming tools like ploughs and cultivators. It also has a 2-inch water pump and a trolley that can carry up to 500 kg, making it very useful for different farming tasks. The tiller is designed to be easy to control, reducing fatigue and increasing efficiency.
Dr. N. Kalaiselvi said this new Electric Tiller is a big step forward in farming technology and will greatly help small and marginal farmers while also being good for the environment.
