The Uttar Pradesh government is taking steps to enhance the rural economy by promoting agri-tourism. This initiative aims to partner with private hospitality companies to develop tourism in rural areas, offering visitors an authentic experience of village life and traditional culture.

Agri-Tourism Villages Identified
The state has identified 229 villages to be developed as agri-tourism destinations. These villages will allow tourists to experience rural lifestyles and cultural heritage firsthand. Mukesh Kumar Meshram, the Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture, highlighted that agri-tourism would provide additional income for farmers and promote rural tourism.

Components of Agri-Tourism
Agri-tourism will include various activities and services such as:

Agri-Accommodation: Rural homestays where tourists can stay with local families.
Agri-Food and Beverages: Offering traditional local cuisine.
Agri-Recreation and Agri-Sport: Engaging tourists in farm-related recreational activities and sports.
Agri-Tainment and Agri-Therapy: Providing entertainment and wellness activities based on agricultural practices.
Cultural Tourism: Showcasing local culture and traditions.
This initiative will also support related sectors like horticulture, apiculture (beekeeping), floriculture, and perfumery, which will further enhance the rural economy.

Economic Benefits and Employment
Devesh Chaturvedi, the Additional Chief Secretary for Agriculture, emphasized that the tourism and hospitality sectors have a high potential for generating employment and economic growth. By promoting agri-tourism, the state can educate visitors about agricultural practices in Uttar Pradesh and provide a boost to both the agriculture and tourism sectors.

Infrastructure Development
The government is working on various schemes to develop stable tourism infrastructure in these villages. This includes better roads, accommodation facilities, and other amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for tourists.

Upcoming Krishi Bharat Summit
To further this initiative, Uttar Pradesh is partnering with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to host a major farm summit named Krishi Bharat in November 2024. The summit will bring together agri-startups, foreign companies, and global venture capitalists interested in investing in the agricultural value chain in India.
